“The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has always been steadfast in addressing child labor and its worst forms through a convergence strategy that brings the government’s child labor programs and services to the barangay level, the basic political structure, and to the family or household, the basic social unit in Philippine society.”

Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) OIC-Executive Director Mary Grace Riguer issued the statement during the forum held last September 30 at the Luxent Hotel as the group Human Rights Watch (HRW) presented their 2015 report “Hazardous Child Labor in Small-Scale Gold Mining in the Philippines.”

The Institute for Labor Studies hosted the National Human Resources Development Roadmap Writeshop which was held at the Local Governance and Learning Center, Blas F. Ople Hall of the Department of Labor and Employment Offices in Intramuros, Manila on November 5, 2015.

DOLE Undersecretary Nicon F. Fameronag gave a primer on the writeshop, emphasizing that it is the preparatory activity for the crafting and formulation of the National Human Resources Development Roadmap”.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) held its Seminar on the Basics of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) at the Labor Governance Learning Center, Blas Ople Hall, Intramuros, Manila last October 9, 2015.

The event was attended by representatives from Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), International Labor Affairs Bureau (ILAB) and DOLE Legal Service.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) conducted the Technical Forum on Philippine Employment Projections Model (PEPM) on September 30, 2015, in culmination of the joint initiative by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) to establish growth forecasts on employment-related indicators over the period 2016-2022.

OIC Executive Director Mary Grace Riguer of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) went through the 28th Session of the Integrated Salamin-Diwa ng Paglilingkod, the first of two courses under the Career Executive Service Board’s (CESB) Executive Leadership Program (ELP).

 

The head of ILS attended the training course on September 1-14, 2015, in Naga City, Camarines Sur as a prerequisite for a Career Executive Service (CES) rank promotion. OIC Exec. Dir. Riguer joined 42 other high-level officials of government agencies in the contemplative course.
