“Collective bargaining is one instrument to address specific challenges of technology and the evolving world of work as parties negotiate to cover different aspects of digitization and flexibilization, among others. However, the low trade union density and collective bargaining rate in the country translated to lagging worker coverage.”

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) held its 2019 planning exercise at The Bayleaf hotel in General Trias, Cavite on 31 January to 01 February.

Executive Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba set the tone for the planning by discussing key issues and concerns that ILS should look into such as the identification of skill needed for the construction industry, unemployment insurance, maternity protection, and the challenges of the so-called 4th Industrial Revolution.

Labor and Employment Officers from the Institute of Labor Studies recently completed a week-long training on Descriptive Statistics funded by the International Labor Organization, which was held at the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) in Diliman, Quezon City from January 13-17.

The Institute was represented by Frances Camille G. Dumalaog, Franchesca Rose S. Castillo, and Malorie Joy O. Mones from the Workers Welfare Research Division, Cesar A. Mansal from the Employment Research Division, Carl Sean E. Pablico from the Labor and Social Relations Research Division, and Arianne Ishreen C. Bucar from the Advocacy and Publications Division.

Executive Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba took her oath of office before DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello last 07 January 2019 after the Monday flag raising ceremony held at the DOLE Main Building façade along Muralla Street in Intramuros, Manila.

The Institute for Labor Studies Executive Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba participated in the “9th ADBI-OECD-ILO Roundtable on Labor Migration in Asia” themed “Innovative Approaches for the Effective Management of Labor Migration in Asia” held in Tokyo, Japan last 24-25 January 2019.
