Manila - The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS), representing the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), expressed the country’s continued commitment to the implementation of the Just Transition Work Programme at the recently concluded United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Informal Virtual Consultations on July 18.

Delegates of the consultation discussed potential topics for the Second Dialogue under the United Arab Emirates Just Transition Work Programme, as convened by the Chairs of the Subsidiary Bodies.  

ILS Executive Director Jeanette T. Damo in behalf of the Philippine delegation to the Just Transition work stream delivered the Philippine intervention and manifested support for the following topics put forward by the SB Chairs, namely: (1) international cooperation and means of implementation for Just Transitions; (2) Just Transition Pathways to enhancing adaptation and climate resilience; (3) Just Transition in the Workforce for a people-centric approach to workforce transformation; (4) Just Energy Transitions, pathways toward sustainable energy systems and workforce transformation; and lastly, the (5) stakeholder engagement for inclusive approaches to Just Transition. The topics mentioned were aligned with Group 77 Countries composed of 134 developing economies. DOLE as represented by Executive Director Damo is co-chair the Just Transition Workstream of the Philippine delegation together with Director Michael Sinocruz of the Energy Policy Planning Bureau, Department of Energy as Chair.

Apart from these topics, Executive Director Damo also expressed the commitment of the country to the global action of implementing the just transition work programme in support of the implementation of the nationally determined contributions, the creation of green jobs, sustainable and inclusive energy transition plan, and scaling up right-skilling and upskilling of the workforce, which are topics within the purview of the Department.
