QUEZON CITY — The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) has officially begun fieldwork activities in the National Capital Region (NCR) for its ongoing research on workers’ view towards labor standards and workplace practices.
The study titled “Workers’ Perspectives on Company Practices in Labor Standards Compliance and Labor-Management Relations” aims to capture workers’ view on critical issues such as grievance mechanisms, employee development, labor-management cooperation and compliance to labor standards.
Leading the research team is Ms. Joyce Anne S. Lumactud, OIC Division Chief of the Labor and Social Relations Research Division (LSRRD), along with researchers Joan N. Comillo, Lyra Cosette B. Dayego, and Yvette Marie M. Manahan. The team formally met DOLE-NCR Regional Director Atty. Sarah Buena S. Mirasol to present the study’s objectives, and field schedule.
The first leg of data gathering took place on 09 June at the DOLE-NCR Manila Field Office, where participating workers engaged in guided surveys. The survey continued with DOLE-NCR Quezon City Field Office with additional sites scheduled for the coming days. Prior to the NCR fieldwork, the research team conducted similar data-gathering activities in provinces of Davao, Cebu, and Iloilo.
Early findings show that workers are sharing valuable views on labor rights and indicated their interest in training and skill-building opportunities from their companies. Initial results also reflect their awareness of, and attention to, fair labor standards, as well as a desire for stronger labor relations and accessible grievance mechanisms and procedures.
The study is one of the eight ongoing research projects of ILS and will be presented at the 14th DOLE Research Conference in October, with full completion targeted by the end of December 2025.
